Nikola Jokic's older brother, Strahinja Jokic (42) was charged with “third-degree assault” after a video surfaced on social media showing him punching a man in the face in the stands at Ball Arena. It was last April during a game against the Lakers. “Assault in the third degree” is a Class 1 felony in Colorado, and it’s the same charge that Ja Morant used to display a weapon in a nightclub, or Anthony Edwards threw a chair at Nuggets employees in the same room.
Wednesday, Strahinja Jokic appeared in Denver County Court to explain the punch, which left his victim with a concussion and facial bruises. In his statement to police, Nikola's brother said he had done nothing wrong because he was defending an older man he had known for a long time.
Already convicted in 2019 for an assault
On Wednesday, the judge issued a protective order requiring Strahinja Jokic to stay away from the alleged victim in the case, which is scheduled to next be heard in October.
This is not the first time Strahinja Jokic has been involved in an assault. In 2019, he was charged with assault and accused of choking and pushing a woman, then preventing her from calling 911. The Serbian pleaded guilty to obstruction of telephone service, as well as trespassing. The prosecutor agreed to dismiss the trespassing conviction if he did not commit another crime for two years.
