Nikola Jokic back in Serbia… to see his horses

Nikola Jokic has already resumed his “normal” life. Less than a week after leading the Nuggets to the NBA title, the Serb returned to his hometown of Sombor on Sunday to watch a horse race.

According to the Associated Press, thousands of his fans converged on the local racecourse where Nikola Jokic had come to see his horses in action. Many wore T-shirts bearing the image of the Nuggets player, some bearing the inscription ‘Sombor, the city of champions’. A billboard reading ‘Welcome home MVP’ had also been put up.

After winning the NBA title, Nikola Jokic worried if he could make it home in time for Sunday’s races after the team’s victory parade in Denver on Thursday. He had joked that he would ask Nuggets boss Josh Kroenke to lend him the team plane to make sure he got there on time.

On the spot, the pivot refused to speak to the journalists. Appearing in the stands in the midst of his family and friends, he watched all the races in which the family stable participated, in the company of his wife and daughter, his brother and his father. The latter clarified that his son would not speak to the press. ” He said to me, ‘Dad, I’ve had enough of the media coverage these past few days. And I believe it “, reported Branislav Jokic.

It is recalled that his son developed a strong passion for horses and horse racing in his youth, to the point of almost moving away from basketball when he was a child. He who had received his second MVP trophy last year in his stable, has already declared that his ” dream is to return to Serbia and become a trotting coach after his basketball career.
