Nick Nurse hails Ricky Council IV promotion

Ricky Council IV couldn't have dreamed of a better end to the season. First signed on a “two-way contract”, the undrafted fullback managed to make his mark within the squad. Nick Nurse, including some good outings like during the recent victory in San Antonio in which he was valuable at the end of the match. He is now rewarded for his efforts since he has officially signed a guaranteed contract which will allow him to occupy 15th place on the Philadelphia roster and therefore to glimpse the “post-season”.

Philadelphia offered him a nice promotion since the player signed a four-year contract for $7.4 million! Enough to ensure he finishes the season with the Sixers but also to plan for the following two seasons, where he will receive around 2 million dollars per year. Finally, his last year of contract, in 2026-2027, will be subject to the approval of the Pennsylvania franchise.

On Saturday, Nick Nurse wanted to salute the journey of the Durham native.

“First of all, I think this is quite an accomplishment for him”, did he declare. “I keep saying it: he’s a competitor. Every day he works hard here. We lug it around, play it here and there. Training sessions or others, he does them with determination. He has progressed in his shooting. He has a unique athletic dimension that allows him to drive and cause fouls. He is a bit versatile in defense (…). He can defend wide and more, always thanks to his athletic qualities. Well, I would say there were at least three times last night where I was tickled to put him in the rotation.”

The numerous injuries which marred the end of Philly's season will at least have had the merit of putting other players in the spotlight, including Ricky Council IV. Despite his little experience, the back actually seems to show surprising maturity, and could therefore be another valuable asset in coach Nurse's game for the play-in or even the playoffs.

“We feel like, like in the San Antonio game, he's a bit of an some actions. So I’m very happy for him”he added.

Ricky Council IV could still be called upon this evening as the Sixers play for their place in the playoffs against Brooklyn.
