Kevin Durant is obviously the hottest player in Brooklyn this season and during the franchise’s current 10-game winning streak, but Nic Claxton also performs well in his corner.
In the last seven games he has played, all won by the Nets, the pivot posted 12.3 points with 81% shooting success, 7.6 rebounds, 3 blocks and an average interception, in 28 minutes. He does what he knows how to do, without overdoing it and with efficiency.
“You see it in the way he behaves. He’s got his swag, it’s pretty cool, and it transpires on the pitch.” notes Jacques Vaughn for the New York Post. “Defensively, he has a huge impact for us. Whether it’s to block six shots, take ten rebounds or whatever. Offensively, he is comfortable, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant will find him. He feels good on the sides of the field. »
With their second place in the East, the Nets offer new exposure to their pivot. The latter, as we know since he has openly said so, is aiming for the title of defender of the year, and with the good results of Brooklyn, it is now more credible.
“When the objective is linked to the success of the team, it is always a plus for the player as well as for the team”, he explains. “So whether I’m Defender of the Year or a member of an All-Defensive Team, the better I defend, the more I protect the circle, the better the team will be. I’m the cornerstone of our team’s defense, so honors and trophies are going to come with that. »
The Nets coach is delighted to see his player wanting to be hailed at the end of the season, because a Claxton who would be among the best defenders in the 2022/2023 financial year can only be beneficial for the team as a whole.
“As a coach, we love it because it means you have to work for the honors to arrive. It requires a huge commitment. It’s work on the court, but also outside. So that’s great. »
