Job Objective: Are you passionate about basketball and determined to lead the New Zealand Men's team to international success? The Tall Blacks are looking for a dynamic Head Coach to design and implement a cutting-edge programme for New Zealand's upcoming campaigns at the FIBA ​​Men's Asia Cup 2025, FIBA ​​Men's World Cup 2027 and the 2028 Olympic Games. You will lead and inspire the Tall Blacks team, working alongside assistant coaches and staff to foster a high-performance environment focused on progression and longevity.

Main responsibilities: As a key voice of the Tall Blacks team, you will establish and lead a team culture that reflects the values ​​of both the New Zealand Basketball Federation and the Tall Blacks – embedding the values ​​espoused by the Tall Blacks and the Federation into team identity and player development.

You will select athletes in accordance with the Federation's selection policy and FIBA ​​guidelines, and collaborate with the High Performance Program Manager, assistant coaches and the Performance Health Team on campaign plans, competition and training schedules.

Demonstrating high level coaching skill, you will be tasked with developing and executing a Tall Blacks style of play for success on the international stage.

You will elevate athletes to international competition standards and cultivate their leadership potential. It is essential to establish a tailored learning environment for player development and set program objectives with the High Performance Manager and the Federation Program Director. You will develop in-depth analysis of players, the team and their opponents to inform skill development programs and game plans.

Building on the rich history of the Tall Blacks, you will aim to achieve the best results at the FIBA ​​Men's Asia Cup 2025, with the aim of qualifying for the FIBA ​​World Cup 2027 and the 2028 Olympic Games. As a result, you will elevate New Zealand to a top 20 basketball nation this term….

Desired skills and experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in coaching the technical and tactical skills of 5×5 athletes, with minimal experience as a head coach at the high level in the ANBL, NBA or EuroLeague, or as a confirmed head coach in the NBL, or at the senior international level in 5×5 basketball
