After a month of November spent mostly away, the Nets are in the process of rebuilding their health at home. After the Blazers then the Magic, the New Yorkers thus repelled the Wizards without being afraid (113-107), thanks to a Kevin Durant always above the lot.
This meeting was, for most of the time, played on one or two possessions, the Nets turning in the lead after one (29-28), two (57-53) then three quarters (80-77). It was under the impetus of Kyrie Irving, author of 15 of his 27 points in the final period, that the Nets widened the most significant gap.
With three minutes left, Kyrie Irving misses a left-handed finish to the circle past Kristaps Porzingis but Royce O’Neale, the late game shadow player, grabs an offensive rebound to give Joe Harris, in better shape , the opportunity to sanction spontaneously at 3-points.
Then, after a loose ball from Kyrie Irving in penetration, followed by a scramble from the Wizards in favor of the Nets, the same O’Neale snatched another offensive rebound before finding Kyrie Irving behind the arc. His winning shot thus offers the most significant advantage to his team (105-94) two minutes from the end.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– Disjointed fourth quarter. The most offensive quarter was not the most pleasant to watch. The two teams quickly in the penalty, the very many whistles generated quantity of passages on the line of free throws. The period was all the more choppy as Jacque Vaughn kept adjusting his five since Nic Claxton is used in defense to defend on Kristaps Porzingis but Cam Thomas is sent back in place of the pivot for the offensive phases. The Wizards were less original but were unable to make up for these two or three late possessions from which they suffered until the end.
– The rebound, always the rebound. At this rate, it’s hard to imagine the Nets not being tempted to strengthen inside in the coming weeks. Despite the work of Royce O’Neale in the last moments, the New Yorkers were still largely dominated in the rebound (35-51), notably conceding 14 offensive rebounds to the Wizards. Brooklyn is the league’s worst team in offensive rebounds conceded. Result: their opponents did what they wanted in the racket (58 points scored, against 32 at the Nets).
– Stars and then that’s it. In the breakdown of the mark, we notice that the three strong men of the Wizards, Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma all three scored 25 points or more. While Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving scored almost 60% of the Nets’ points (66 of 113). Others… ?
– The Nets finally in the positive. New Yorkers had never gone beyond 50% wins this season. It’s done thanks to this third success in a row. Since their very poor start at one win and five losses, they have just won 11 of their last 17 outings. They thus steal 8th place in their conference from their evening opponents, who still have a balanced balance sheet. The Nets replay four times in a row at home, only against the Eastern teams (Raptors, Celtics, Hornets and Hawks).
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ Kevin Durant. ” He’s the best player in the world. And he’s coming out of a 45-point game? You have to believe that his confidence never wavers. Kristaps Porzingis can only admit defeat in the face of the new demonstration of “KD”. This one, which still made in the maximum efficiency, turns to nearly 40 points on average over three games. ” We had seen him string together 30-point matches when he won the MVP title, right? Let’s hope he continues and maintains that 40 point average “wishes Kyrie Irving.
✅ Kristaps Porzingis. After his 41 points against Wolves, he continues with a new very big performance marked by a career record in rebounds. The Latvian was much more effective in shooting than his two shooting partners, Beal and Kuzma. Even though the inside surprisingly dropped five free throws along the way.
⛔ Will Barton. There were many faulty role players in this match, but we chose to zoom in on the former Nuggets player, author of one of his worst matches in Washington. He brought almost nothing in 14 minutes. His poor performance reflects his difficulties since his transfer in the offseason. From holder in Denver, he became a substitute: his average points fell by half and his address sank (36%…).
