The Nets' rebuild is clearly not just about the court. There are also moves in the front office in Brooklyn, which has brought back Drew Nicholas, formerly the Nuggets' scouting director, as announced by HoopsHype. Before landing at the Nets, Nicholas had stints in recruiting at the Wolves, Celtics and Sixers.
The Nets are getting active because there have been a lot of departures recently. Among them, Matt Tellem, the former vice president of strategy for the Nets, left for the Suns. Jeff Peterson, who was assistant GM, left for the Hornets to become the President, taking with him Ryan Gisriel, then director of operations for the Nets, who left to become vice president of the Hornets.
To replace Ryan Gisriel, Brooklyn had already named Justin Bokmeyer as director of basketball operations and Makar Gevorkian also came in to replace Matt Tellem. Still pending is Petterson's replacement as Sean Marks' assistant.
All of these recruiting positions are strategic for the Nets who are in a total reconstruction with Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton as headliners on the court and many picks recovered whether with the Rockets or during the trade of Mikal Bridges to the Knicks. Brooklyn currently has six picks for the 2025 Draft which is announced as promising.
The Nets currently have their first round draft pick, Milwaukee's (protected 1-4), New York's pick, and the worst pick between Phoenix, Houston and Oklahoma City. In the second round, the franchise will have a choice between its pick and the Heat's (protected 31-37).
