For the first time in its history, Netflix is broadcasting live sports on November 14. it’s about the “Netflix Cup”a friendly golf competition between Formula 1 drivers.
We are therefore far from an official competition, but it is a first step in live sport for the platform which is seeking a second wind by eyeing TV rights for professional sport.
Sports Media Watch reports that the VOD giant has expressed interest in broadcasting the “In-Season Tournament”, the first edition of which is taking place this season. Next April, the NBA will renegotiate its TV contract for several billion dollars, and Adam Silver has never hidden the fact that he is ready to offer prizes for online platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Apple TV.
Nothing says that the NBA wants to extract its tournament from all the lots, but for Netflix, it would be a very good way to gauge itself and mark the occasion since the “In-season Tournament” takes place over a few weeks, with two days a week.
