NCAA | A Swiss prospect from Chalon will join Miami

Jim Larranaga has found the replacement for Isaiah Wong, who declared himself a candidate for the 2023 Draft this week after four great seasons under the tunic of the Hurricanes, in the person of Kyshawn George.

Young Swiss “prospect”, the 18-year-old leader is playing this season with Elan Chalon in Pro B (2.9 points in 6.6 minutes), after three seasons with the club’s U21s.

Eager to join the NCAA circuit for some time now, to continue his development, the future Miami player joins a popular program, after a very good season punctuated by a final in the ACC conference tournament (defeat against Duke), and above all a “run” to the semi-final of the “March Madness” (defeat against the future champion UConn), and which has had a good reputation for training rears for several seasons.

From a young age, I have always been in the world of basketball. My father being Canadian, I bathed in this American basketball culture, there was always some on TV. So it became a dream for me to one day be able to play in a major American university. he said in a statement by the club. ” Chalon allowed me to take a big step in my basketball and I am very grateful to them, but nevertheless this dream has always stuck with me and I have never really stopped thinking about it. It was therefore to follow my dream and continue to evolve in basketball that I made the decision to join one of these universities despite the magnificent years spent in Chalon-sur-Saône. »

The CEO is angry!

On the side of the management of the Saône-et-Loire club, the pill is however very difficult to pass, because the management of the program has never contacted its counterparts in Chalon.

We are really furious » cursed Rémy Delpon bitterly, the general manager of l’Élan. ” We cannot blame Kyshawn who has expressed this objective for a long time, but the regulations which allow wealthy American universities to be able to recruit a player to the club for four years, under a trainee contract and under a training agreement until June 2024, and this for zero euro compensation! We didn’t even get a call from the University of Miami… This is unacceptable and disrespectful. We have alerted our authorities to this incredible flaw in the regulations which is detrimental to our training and the protection of training clubs. That being said, I hope that this case will be able to move the authorities and ensure that in the future the clubs are protected. Good luck to Kyshawn who is pursuing his dream, although we are obviously disappointed and would have preferred him to be our figurehead for the next few seasons. »
