NBA tournament: what bonuses for players, coaches and assistants?

Starting this evening, the “In-Season Tournament” enters its second phase with the first two quarter-finals. Each player on each team is already guaranteed to receive, at a minimum, an initial bonus of $50,000. This is what is promised to players who do not make it through to the quarter-finals. We are far from the $500,000 promised to each winner, but it is already a considerable bonus for some.

What about players in “ two-way contractt”, of the coach and his assistants? For the coach, the bonus is equivalent to that of the players, and the coaches of the four eliminated teams will therefore each receive $50,000.

LeBron James makes over $500,000 per game

For “two-way contracts”, which are between 2 and 3 per workforce, a 50% discount is applied. A quarter-finalist will therefore receive $25,000, and that is a large sum for those who receive $75,000 per year, and they are the majority.

For assistants, it is more complex since they share 75% of the planned bonus. The assistants of the teams eliminated Monday and Tuesday will therefore share $37,500.

As a reminder, bonuses are not cumulative. Thus, the winners of the four quarter-finals will not receive $50,000, but will be guaranteed to receive at least $100,000, the bonus provided for teams eliminated in the semi-finals.

The NBA will distribute a total of $18 million in prize money based on the results of the tournament, with just under half going to the winning team. Like LeBron James is making around $47 million this season, he's already making over $500,000 per game…
