NBA Playoffs: why 7-game series?

Next weekend, after the play-in, the NBA playoffs will begin and two numbers are already known for the 16 franchises participating in the final phase of the season: 4 and 16.

You have to win four series by winning 4 matches. That’s 16 victories to finish the season with the trophy in their arms. Only one will succeed next June.

Obviously, 16 games is the ideal scenario. But often you have to play a lot more. Sometimes 7 matches just to get through a round. With the key to Match 7s which sometimes make the legend of the NBA. But why are the series between the teams played in the best of seven matches?

This is what we explain to you today in Histoires de Basketball.
