NBA matches broadcast in cinemas are already known in France, and the first experience dates back to 2011! It’s certainly rare but it’s not new. The concept will, however, be widely explored in the United States since CNBC announces that Warner Bros and Cosm will open two 800-seat “domes” in 2024, in Los Angeles and Dallas, to offer NBA matches broadcast on TNT.
This will also concern the NHL, and the concept takes up the principle of The Sphere in Las Vegas, with a totally immersive, 360° experience.
Each spectator will have the impression of being in the front row of the room, and each room will be equipped with 8K 360-degree LED screens measuring 25 meters in diameter! NBC specifies that it will not be 3D but without glasses or a virtual reality headset, the viewer will really have the impression of being in an NBA room.
“We want to take advantage of extraordinary technology to offer the viewer an experience never before seen”said Jeb Terry, CEO of Cosm. “With The Sphere, it’s big, enormous, grandiose. Ours is smaller and focuses on sports and live programming, as if you were there. »
