NBA approves Mark Cuban's sale of Mavericks

It had been in the pipeline for a month, but all that was missing was the agreement of the “Board of Governors”, in other words the council of owners of NBA franchises, to authorize the transaction. Finally, this one approved unanimously (29-0) the sale of the majority of shares of Mark Cuban at the Mavericks.

Twenty-three years after taking control, the fiery owner of Dallas will therefore sell its franchise to the Adelson and Dumont families, at the head of the Las Vegas Sands casino company. However, he will remain the boss of the sporting part, as substitute “governor” of the Mavs directly under Patrick Dumont, and the sale should be finalized within the week.

A new page turns for Mark Cuban

The deal would value the Mavericks between $4 billion and $5 billion. There is talk of a 73% stake for Patrick Dumont (compared to 27% for Mark Cuban) and the Adelson and Dumont families now have the ambition to set up casinos in Dallas.

For this to happen, however, gambling will have to become legal in Texas and Mark Cuban is already in the front row to force the hand of politicians, while he wanted to build the future Mavs hall in a hotel-casino…

A Mark Cuban who, at 65 years old, seems to have arrived at a turning point in his professional life, because he also announced that he was leaving his show “Shark Tank” next year, which he has hosted for sixteen years now.
