NBA 2K25: What's new in “The W” mode

It's now been four years since 2K Sports developed a real universe around women's basketball in NBA 2K with ” The W “, its own story mode, and a set refined over the years. The next version on NBA 2K25 will not deviate from the rule and will be well accompanied by its share of new features.

“The W” had to be particularly present this season as the WNBA enjoys growing media coverage, increased tenfold this summer by the arrival of the phenomenon Caitlin Clark, a “Curry-esque” nugget from the Indiana Fever, launched “in pursuit of excellence”, following in the footsteps of her elders. And it is perhaps her destiny that we will find at the heart of the story mode.

The “Goat List” in the crosshairs

Titled “Pursuit of Greatness,” it will center its story around your “Goat mission”: surpass the accomplishments of 23 of the best players in WNBA history. You will be able to choose the attributes and starting story of your “MyPlayer,” between playing the number 1 in the Draft (with a rating of 75) or a player who first shone abroad before entering the WNBA (with a rating of 85). You will then have to embark on this challenge which promises to be tough, at least as much as the “MyCareer” mode for men, which this year will offer to build the best dynasty in history.

Before getting there, the first challenge will be to fight for the title of rookie of the year, with Caitlin Clark but also Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso as the main competitors. Each of your accomplishments will then allow you to climb on the “Goat List”, of which some players still active, like Breanna Stewart or A'Ja Wilson, will present themselves on your path.

To do this, you'll need to win championship titles, a back-to-back, Finals MVP trophies, and hope to tease Diana Taurasi's career points record (10,138) or Aja Wilson's 53 points in a game, to earn your place in the WNBA legend. Enough to set the pace for the adventure and push you to always give your best.

Introduction to press conferences

2K Sports also highlighted that press conferences were introduced for the first time in “The W,” and will help drive the story, highlight a performance, a rivalry, and build momentum post-game.

The online “The W” mode has also been revamped. First, by changing the setting, since the meetings will now take place on a magnificent new outdoor field, in the heart of a redwood forest. With the return of weekly community objectives, the online “The W” mode benefits from a new feature called mentoring to spice up its 3×3 sessions.

This involves taking under your wing another player who is not in “Game Changer” to help you meet your challenges, encourage mutual aid and of course receive an increase in their contribution to the community objective, in addition to receiving special rewards such as Boosts. Enough to diversify the experience a little more.
