During 2022, Nate Robinson announced that he had been suffering from kidney failure since 2018 and, six years later, he is still waiting for a kidney transplant to get better and make his daily life easier.
“ I know I don't have long [à vivre] if i can't get a kidney » he declares in the columns of Daily Mail. “ I know I won't have long to live, so I just want to enjoy it [de la vie] as much as possible. »
Until now, if Nate Robinson is holding up, it is only thanks to his very regular dialysis sessions…
“ Some people's bodies reject dialysis but thank God mine accepts it and I can live » he adds on this subject. “ If I don't go on dialysis, I probably won't live more than a week or two, so it's serious, I can't miss a day. I go there three times a week for four hours and they clean my blood to eliminate toxins. I get a lot of help because that's how I live. »
“Lucky” compared to others…
Almost 40 years old, Nate Robinson tries to be positive as best he can. He who had prepared himself since 2006 to be confronted with this problem, because of high blood pressure which did not, however, prevent him from living his NBA dream to the fullest (eleven years of career, for 11.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds on average with eight franchises).
“ Every new day is a blessing: the blessing of being alive and being able to do what I do every day, because some people never leave the hospital when they go in for a kidney transplant… » recalls the three-time winner of the Slam Dunk Contest.
Often hospitalized because of his illness, Nate Robinson has obviously had to drastically change his lifestyle since 2018, to try not to make it worse…
“ There are a whole bunch of things to watch out for, you have to measure everything you eat and drink, it can't be too much or little » he says. “ I've changed my diet, I'm just trying to eat better by avoiding processed foods, focusing on fruits and grilled foods, like chicken or fish, healthier things. This is how I can survive and stay alive as long as possible. »
