As the WNBA season continues its journey with the Olympics looming, Team USA players can be at risk of injury at the worst possible times. That may be what happened with Napheesa Collier.
The Minnesota Lynx player, elected MVP of the Commissioner's Cup ten days ago, injured her left foot, all by herself, in the third quarter against the Connecticut Sun. Finishing the game with 9 points, her lowest total in 29 matches!
For now, the details regarding this injury are not knownbut three weeks before the Paris Olympics, it is mechanically worrying. Especially since Napheesa Collier, former rookie of the year and who played in France, even winning the Coupe de France with Lattes Montpellier, is one of the favorites for the MVP trophy this season.
Indeed, the four-time All-Star is averaging 20 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists, which makes her the sixth best scorer (and fourth in rebounding) in the league, on the team that has the third-best record, behind the Connecticut Sun and the New York Liberty.
