Kelly Oubre Jr. was he hit by a car on Saturday near his home as he said when he called 911? For the moment, the ongoing investigation has not made it possible to confirm the comments of the Philadelphia winger, according to information collected by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Neither the police nor the surrounding stores which also have surveillance camera systems have yet found any image of an accident which could attest to a collision such as that described by Kelly Oubre Jr.
“The Police Department currently has no video or photo evidence of this collision”, Sergeant Eric Gripp said Wednesday. “We continue to work in the hope of gathering evidence and encourage anyone with information to contact our accident investigation unit.”
No trace of the accident
The police report on Saturday was quite specific, however, indicating that an accident had occurred at 7:20 p.m. near 15th Street and Spruce Street, and that it had involved a gray vehicle and a pedestrian, later identified as Kelly Oubre Jr.
The collision reportedly occurred when the vehicle turned onto Hicks Streets, striking the player in the chest with his rearview mirror. Kelly Oubre Jr was treated at the scene before being transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken rib and injuries to his hip and leg.
It now remains to find the beginning of a testimony, or better, a video of the incident. In addition to the investigations carried out by the police, two other employees of companies located near the scene of the accident designated by the player also reviewed approximately two hours of images recorded at that time, without also finding any trace of the accident, as they reported to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Nick Nurse supporting his player
The investigations are therefore at a standstill for the moment, and even if Eric Gripp stressed that the police are not accusing Kelly Oubre Jr of having lied at this stage, eyes could quickly turn towards the player without any significant evolution of investigation. Which Nick Nurse still finds deeply unfair.
“I don’t think it’s very fair for him to say that he invented a story,” reacted the coach. “I’ll take his word for it. He is one of our players and we will support him. And me first.”
For the moment, however, the absence of video evidence at a visibly busy intersection raises questions. The precision of the location (and time) of the accident given by the player could also be erroneous, due to the fact that the person concerned does not know Philadelphia well, where he has just moved, and that he was also undoubtedly under the shock when he communicated this first information.
Everyone is now waiting for the first statements from Kelly Oubre Jr. on the subject, which should not take long, since the winger has already returned to the Sixers training center. Philadelphia also hopes to be able to see him back in uniform at the end of November, or even at the beginning of December.
