The Munich Olympic Games in 1972 made both big and small history. The big one with the attack perpetrated against Israeli athletes on September 5. Eleven athletes were killed after a hostage-taking lasting several hours. A tragic event that places everything else second.
And the rest, the short story, is a legendary Olympic basketball final between the United States and the USSR. It was contested on September 9, in the middle of the Cold War between the two countries. A completely crazy finale, with repercussions that still last today for the families of American players.
This is what we tell you today in Histoire(s) de Basketball. An episode written by Jonathan Demay.
