A year ago, Andres Warriors missed the final 25 games of the regular season to be close to his seriously ill father, Mitchell, and this year again, he missed a few games for “personal reasons.” Unfortunately, Mitchell Wiggins died this Friday at the age of 64. It was his daughter who announced it on the social networks, through this message: “Rest in peace. We will always miss you. I love you forever, Dad.”
Having played for CSP Limoges, Mitchell Wiggins had been battling illness for two years, and a year ago, Andrew thanked the Warriors for allowing him to leave the team to stay with his father. “With this frankness, I am privileged, just to be here and all the time they have given me, to be with my family,” he had declared. “They didn't have to do it, but they did it. And they didn't pressure me to come back. It was my decision to come back, so I think that says a lot about this organization.”
A month ago, Andrew Wiggins had cancelled a promotional tour in Asia to stay at his father's bedside, who had played in the NBA and was drafted by the Pacers in 23rd position in the 1983 Draft (that of Ralph Sampson and Clyde Drexler). He would play six years in the NBA, for more than decent stats: 10 points and 3.2 rebounds on average in 389 games with the Bulls, Rockets and Sixers. Then, he would go abroad with stops in Greece, France and the Philippines.
