Mike Malone wants Nuggets even more ‘desperate’ and ‘hungry’ than Heat

Mike Malone brought out the speech he had already used against the Lakers in the conference final. With a Game 5 at home, his Nuggets have the opportunity to end the series and win the title. But with three match points, Denver can (logically) relax a little, thinking that there will be other opportunities behind.

Clearly, that’s what the Colorado coach fears, even if his team has managed these “winning” games well so far. Sure, they lost Game 4 to Wolves in the first round, eventually ending the series in five games, but they knocked out the Suns in the conference semifinals at their first opportunity, in Game 6, and they also took out the Lakers from their first match point, in Game 4, in the conference final.

“My biggest concern, in a game that can close a series, is human nature”, thus repeated Mike Malone. “Most teams, when they are 3-1 up, they catch their breath. They relax and take it for granted that they are going to win. But we know that anything is possible [à 3-1]. That’s why I told my team that we had to approach this game as if we were down 3-1. They are desperate. We must be even more desperate. They are hungry. We must be even hungrier. »

Nikola Jokic assures that the whole team is well aware that the Heat should not be revived.

“We are going to approach this match as if victory was compulsory”explained the Serbian pivot. “I know this is a great opportunity and I think everyone is aware of it. Compared to training today, where everyone was focused, I think we will be ready. »

For Jamal Murray, the Nuggets’ difficult path to the top prevents them from experiencing hubris anyway. After the injuries of recent seasons, there is no question of letting this chance pass.

“Being here complements everything we have already done and shows that when we have the right conditions and everyone is healthy, God willing, we can do it. And when we’re playing our best basketball, we’re a very tough team to stop.” concludes the Canadian playmaker.
