Going from a third or even fourth option in Phoenix to a “franchise player” status in Brooklyn, Mikal Bridges amazed everyone in the regular season, increasing his offensive production while maintaining his efficiency: 17.2 points on average for the Suns (56 games) to 26.1 points at the Nets (27 games), with better shooting skill with Brooklyn (48% vs. 46%) and similar 3-point skill (38% vs. 39%).
In the playoffs, however, his status as the first threat showed its limits. In the last three games, he certainly shot at 20.3 points on average, but at 36% shooting success (21/59).
“I have the impression that in the last games I let my team down”, he bluntly blurted out. “I hate that I can’t [gagner] a game for them. It hurts me as I try, but that’s the way it is. I own it and realize that all I can do is improve. This is the most important for me. »
In addition to defending James Harden, Mikal Bridges probably had a suit a little too big for him in these playoffs. But there is no question of him giving up.
“I love my guys to death and I said to them, ‘It’s my fault, I’m sorry I couldn’t win a few games'”he continues about this “sweep” against the Sixers. “I just wanted to land a few shots, but I promised them that I will be better next time. »
As he did not miss a game (even playing 83 following his transfer), Mikal Bridges is the player who has played the most minutes (2,963) this season in the NBA and the one who has covered the most distance ( 360 kilometres) on the grounds. But the winger doesn’t want to use fatigue as an excuse.
“They just played harder than us”he concluded. “That’s just it. We can’t relax. »
