Hit in the wrist, KZ Okpala has not walked on an NBA floor since December 28. And the Heat have just announced that the winger, 32nd choice of the 2019 Draft, joins Oklahoma City. In exchange, Miami receives a second round of the Draft in 2026, the lowest of the choices of Oklahoma City, Dallas or Philadelphia that year.
But the main information of the “trade” may be elsewhere. In his press releasethe Florida club explains that the two clubs have modified the conditions of the first round of Draft that Miami already owes Oklahoma City.
Starting out as a 1-14 protected pick in 2023 (which could be rolled over each year depending on Miami’s Draft position), it now becomes a protected pick in 2025, but no- protected in 2026.
What does it change ? It changes that Miami now has its 2022 or 2023 Draft pick to trade, which could help it set up a major trade in the next few hours…
