It’s a bit of the icing on the cake for Derek Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper. Selected by the Mavericks in the first round of the Draft, the two players will have the privilege of evolving on a daily basis with Luka Doncic.
The presence of the Slovenian leader represents a great opportunity to progress for the two rookies, even if the pressure will not fail to be felt, at least at the beginning, since it will be necessary to be useful quickly.
“It’s definitely going to be scary when I’m going to lay down a good screen for Luka so he can go in the paint”, recognized inside Dereck Lively II. “We’re not going to know if he’s going to come out for a 3-pointer, put a floater, finish in the circle, send a lob pass. It’s going to be really fun offensively…”
Opportunities to seize at the end
Like his future teammate, Olivier-Maxence Prosper also believes that the qualities of the two rookies can be expressed alongside the Slovenian, in a finishing role. And this from the start of the campaign.
“Luka is one of the best players in the world. To play with a player like him is just amazing.”said the Canadian. “You can learn so much from a guy like him. He is an altruistic player, who likes to pass, who likes to create. I am very happy to be able to play with a player like him, to learn from him and to help him. For guys like us, we don’t need to have the ball in our hands. We’re ready to cut, finish, or catch Luka’s lobs, all of it. It’s exciting to be able to play with a guy like Luka”.
To integrate in the best conditions and hope to evolve as quickly as possible in a match with Luka Doncic, the two players will now go through the Summer League box with the Mavericks.
“I tried to absorb it all, stay in the moment and enjoy the Draft experience. It’s something you work for all your life, to get there. So you have to appreciate and celebrate every moment. Now the Draft party is over. It’s time to get down to business and get ready for the Summer League.”confirmed Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
