Who will be the Mavericks' third point guard next season, when Luka Doncic and/or Kyrie Irving take a breather? Under contract, Dante Exum can do the job, but depending on Hoopshypemanagement is reportedly looking for an additional point guard. There are plenty left on the market, and Dallas is not ruling out bringing in a former player, whether it's Spencer Dinwiddie or of Dennis Smith Jr.
We imagine that the first will not be satisfied with the minimum salary, and that he will want guarantees of playing time. As for the second, aged 26, he is coming off two seasons with 26 and 19 minutes of playing time, and he will not be satisfied with playing at the end of the bench either.
Third track considered: Malachi Flynn. He never played for the Mavericks but he revealed himself to the general public last April with a 50-point performance in the Pistons' game against the Hawks. Without a contract, the 29th pick in the 2020 Draft had a particularly eventful season since he went from Toronto to Detroit, with a detour to New York. Perhaps he needs stability, in the absence of a lot of playing time.
