Mathias Lessort joins the cast of the tribute match to Drazen Petrovic

On September 5th in Zagreb, at the initiative of his brother Aleksandar Petrovic, the Croatian national team will face a selection of European players to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the birth of Drazen Petrovic, who died on June 7th, 1993 in a road accident.

A few days after Goran Dragic's jubilee, this selection of European players, dubbed “Team Drazen”, will be superb since the coach of the Brazilian national team has confirmed the presence of Luka Doncic and he hopes for that of Nikola Jokic.

“Luka Doncic will be there, Goran Dragic too, the Croatians from the NBA, and we are still waiting for confirmation of Nikola Jokic's presence,” Petrovic explains to Sports News. “Mario Hezonja will play for the Croatian team, Dzanan Musa and Walter Tavares will play for Drazen's team, Facundo Campazzo was also scheduled but he is expecting a baby soon and therefore had to decline.”

Anything but an exhibition match

A Frenchman has slipped into the casting, and he is European champion and Olympic vice-champion. It is Mathias Lessort. “There will be other great players” Petrovic continues. “Mathias Lessort, Tornike Shengelia, Shane Larkin, Dyshawn Pierre, Vanja Marinkovic, Nenad Dimitrijevic, Marcelinho Huertas, Jaka Blazic…”.

To coach them: Zeljko Obradovic, Neven Spahija and Josip Sesar. “I asked the coaches to make it a real game, and not to treat it as an exhibition game. In honor of Drazen.”

Finally, Aleksandar Petrovic announced the presence of ” Alberto Herreros and Alfonso Reyes, as well as three current Real Madrid players ” because it is ” It was there that Drazen wrote his name in the history books.” .
