The rumor is making more and more noise among league “insiders”. Marc Stein is the last to raise the possibility that the Rockets would use their 3rd Draft pick to set up a transfer.
In this case, it would be a question of reaching an agreement with the Grizzlies to recover Marcus Smart, as well as their 9th choice. A strategy to favor the recruitment of an experienced player, rather than targeting a young person in a Draft which promises to be homogeneous, already mentioned a few days ago.
Marcus Smart, who only played twenty games this season in Memphis, made it possible to densify the Texan back lines, and to provide a second defensive curtain behind Fred VanVleet. His profile interests Ime Udoka all the more as the two men spent time together at the Celtics.
The interest in this matter for the Grizzlies would be to have a higher choice in the Draft. There is serious interest in Donovan Clingan (Connecticut), likely to be selected before 9th place. ESPN currently places him at 6th place in its forecasts.
We remind you that the Tennessee franchise would not be the only one to eye the Rockets' 3rd choice. Charlotte, which has the 6th pick, and Portland (7 and 14th picks) would also seek to move up the selection hierarchy.
