A big blow for the Nuggets and a superb catch for the Magic. ESPN reveals, in fact, that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope commits to three years and $66 million in Florida! Note that the third year of the lease will be a “player option.”
Orlando was looking to strengthen the 2/3 positions, by bringing in an experienced player capable of providing 3-point threat and defense, and the Florida leaders could not ask for better than “KCP”. Since his time with the Lakers, he has simply established himself as one of the best role players of the league in his position, winning two titles in Los Angeles then Denver.
While the Magic savor their victory, the Nuggets will now have to tinker to replace Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (10.1 points average at 41% at 3-points this season), while their finances are already well in the red. Perhaps Klay Thompson or Paul George will come to console them shortly, not to mention Russell Westbrook, but the contribution of the 31-year-old guard will certainly be felt in the backcourt local, because he perfectly complemented Jamal Murray…
