On a series of three consecutive defeats and pursued by the Warriors in the standings, the Mavericks badly needed a victory at home against the Heat and, thanks to a Luka Doncic record (35 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists), they managed to return to success (114-108).
Despite Terry Rozier (27 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds), Luka Doncic but also Kyrie Irving (23 points) held on for Dallas and signed a more successful end to the match, in order to calm down this team of Miami who remained on seven victories in eight matches.
With this result combined with the defeat of the Warriors against the Bulls, the Mavericks are in any case a game and a half ahead of 9th place in the West, while the Heat lose the opportunity to stay close to the Top 4 West.
TO REMEMBER
– Luka Doncic continues his crazy streak. Five. This now makes five triple-doubles in a row with at least 30 points for Luka Doncic, who is none other than the second player after Russell Westbrook (2017) to achieve such a series. In addition, the Slovenian remains on four triple-doubles in a row with at least 35 points and, for once, he becomes the very first player to sign such a series. But after three defeats in a row, the Mavericks finally managed to win in these conditions. Compared to “Picasso” by his coach, Doncic wasted only a little (12/24, including 7/13 from distance, and 4 lost balls), proving especially valuable in “money-time”.
– Miami cracks at the end. Still in the lead in the last three minutes (101-100), the Heat then collapsed in front of the 3-point successes of the Mavericks, and in particular those of Dante Exum, Luka Doncic then Kyrie Irving, to bring the score to 109 -104. Before this same Exum, decisive in hot moments, added another basket then free throws to ensure the Texan success, despite the Florida outside skill (17/38) or the efforts of Terry Rozier.
– Dallas adjusts its five. To revive and energize his team, Jason Kidd decided to change his starting lineup and replace Josh Green and Derek Lively II with Derrick Jones Jr. and Daniel Gafford. A profitable choice, since the Mavericks won, notably with a good contribution from Gafford on the offensive rebound and at the conclusion, while Lively II took over well off the bench, finishing the game as a bonus. What comfort for the Mavs coach to repeat the experience?
