It’s now been two weeks since the regular season started, and Luka Doncic has still not dropped below 30 points!
Proudly sporting averages of 36 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists after seven games, the Slovenian Mavs superstar is not only the No. 1 candidate for the MVP title, but he is also, and only, the third player of history to start a season with seven games over 30 points.
Currently tied with the unknown Jack Twyman, Luka Doncic will still need a good fifteen more games if he wants to get Chamberlain’s insane record, set at 23 games!
“It’s very, very high level, and we’re lucky to be there night after night,” relished Jason Kidd on ESPN. “It’s pretty amazing. A 23-year-old kid playing at this level is really something special. He can score in so many ways, whether it’s posting his opponent or going to the circle, 3-pointers or on those stepbacks. It’s a pleasure to be able to be part of this, and it also shows his concentration at the moment. He carries the team and he puts the team in a position to win every game. »
With his 36.1 average points, Luka Doncic is the third highest average in history after seven games played in the season, behind Michael Jordan (37.0 in 1986-87) and James Harden (36.6 in 2019-20).
“My start to the season last year was unacceptable”
With his performance last night, at 33 points and 11 assists, he has already accumulated four games with 30 points and 10 assists this season, as much as the rest of the NBA combined!
“I just know that after last season, I had to start better. My start to the season last year was unacceptable,” recognizes Luka Doncic. “I tried to learn from this mistake to do better this year. »
We can say that it is successful! Even if it does not really surprise his playmates.
“It’s incredible, but I’m not surprised,” concludes Spencer Dinwiddie. “Luka is a basketball scholar. Nothing shocks me with him anymore. He is obviously still young and the best is yet to come. He will undoubtedly set a slew of records for the Mavs and end up in the talk of the all-time greats. »
