In November, an anonymous account (soon deleted) accused Josh Giddey on social networks for having had an “inappropriate relationship” in 2022 with a teenage girl who was 15 or 16 years old at the time, while the basketball player was 19 or 20 years old. The Newport Beach police and the NBA had each opened an investigation into the allegations, because the sexual majority is set at 18 years old in California.
The Californian police quickly abandoned their investigation. “After a diligent and comprehensive review, we have completed our investigation into information circulating on social media about Josh Giddey. Our investigators analyzed all the information available and were unable to corroborate any criminal behavior on the part of Mr. Giddey.”she explained in a press release.
Several months later, and with the Thunder's season having just ended in the conference semi-finals, it's the NBA that arrived to the same conclusion, therefore closing his investigation.
For Josh Giddey (21), who had always refused to speak directly about these accusations, the “case” is therefore closed. In his last press conference before the holidays, the Australian had however indirectly raised the subject, speaking of “ups and downs” of his season, both on and off the field.
The Californian public had heckled him several times during the regular season, while he is now looking towards the Olympic Games with Australia, and a crucial off-season, since he will be entering the last year of his rookie contract, and that he absolutely must improve in shooting to remain in the Thunder's major five.
