THE Knicks were awaiting the return of Julius Randle, who had been absent for more than two months. But the bad news fell this Thursday: the interior will have to go to the pool table and thus miss the end of the season. A hard blow for the player and for the team, obviously.
According to TNT, the player was injured five weeks ago when returning to contact training: “I want everyone to know that I did everything in my power to come back” explained the interior. “That's why I didn't opt for the operation when it happened… What pushed me to have the operation was that about five weeks ago I participated in a session with contact and I reinjured my shoulder. »
Knicks sad for their teammate
A relapse which affected his teammates, who hoped to see him again on the pitch. “I feel sad because it kept us in suspense for two months,” comments Josh Hart. “He worked like crazy to come back, but unfortunately couldn't do it. We never want a season to end with an injury. It's hard and frustrating for him. »
“It’s sad for him because he was working to come back. Many players would have given up straight away and opted for the operation”adds Isaiah Hartenstein. “Morale is a little lower when a player is no longer there. It's sad “continues Jalen Brunson. “He’s our brother but that’s how it is, we have to move forward. »
Moving forward without Julius Randle, the Knicks know how to do it since they have been playing without him for more than two months. His last match was on January 27.
Consider returns as a bonus
“We always had in mind the possibility that he could come back but I think we really progressed with the opposite idea, that he was not going to come back. This is the state of mind you need to have”underlines Josh Hart who had recently insisted that he and his teammates should not wait for the injured. “We are not going to replace Julius individually. It will be a collective work”warns Tom Thibodeau.
The recent return of Mitchell Robinson and the (hoped) next one of OG Anunoby will allow New York to have more weapons for the playoffs. To do without Julius Randle, as for several weeks.
“We approach each match with the players we have. If there is feedback, that's a bonus. We've been through some things this season but I'm happy with our position. We have to finish strong”concludes Isaiah Hartenstein.
