With the Lakers, LeBron James only plays once a year in Cleveland, so his trip to Ohio is always special. This November 25, he took the opportunity to inaugurate the new museum to his glory, the “LeBron James’ Home Court”, which is located on the premises of his foundation, in Akron.
Admission is $23 but all proceeds are donated to the foundation. The visit begins with the epic with the Vincent-St. Mary High School, and among the exhibits are the original circle and board, which he shot at as a high school student. Many personal elements are present to recall his first All-Star selection, his successes with Team USA, and of course his various titles with the Heat, the Cavaliers and the Lakers.
Objects kept by his mother
“I often made fun of my mother because she kept everything since I started sport”, explains the best scorer in NBA history. “She got her revenge when we started getting things ready for the museum, because a lot of what’s there is from what she saved. And it’s pretty cool. »
LeBron James is therefore very proud to continue to advance the attractiveness of his hometown.
“I think it’s pretty cool that I’ve been able to do certain things in my life to be able to bring something back to my community and continue to highlight it and give it a place that people want to visit, that they want to see and of which they want to be proud. And I am. I’m very proud of the fact that my foundation has been able to do great things and that’s one of the things that we can all be proud of, for sure, in my hometown. »
When the four-time MVP and four-time champion plays in Cleveland, it is in a peaceful climate and mutual recognition. The Cavaliers mascot came to greet him and the franchise released a video congratulating its former player for overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at the top of the scoring hierarchy.
Mutual recognition in Cleveland
“It’s always a great feeling to come back here, look up and be part of all the banners in this room”explains LeBron James. “And especially the main banner, the one in the middle, the one from the 2016 title, so it’s really cool. »
Enough to make him very proud there too.
“It’s just special. It’s very special to be an Akron kid. I grew up 30 miles south of here and was able to get drafted here, spend my first seven years here and do some special things that the franchise had never seen. When I got drafted, I said I wanted to light up this place like Vegas. I feel like I’ve done a good job of that in the eleven years I’ve been here. »
