The Lakers do not intend to rush things with LeBron James for recovery. Now the oldest player in the league, at 38, the Californian superstar will benefit from preferential treatment, which implies that he be rested for the first match of the preseasonthis Saturday against Golden State.
Nothing of concern, however, except the desire to offer the “King” a smooth recovery in order to allow him to gradually return to his best condition as a basketball player, without a hitch on the physical level.
“He is healthy, 100%. He looks in great shape. He looks like the LeBron of his third or fourth year,” had notably assured his coach Darvin Ham.
Taking care of the King
The latter recalled the importance of taking all necessary precautions regarding the state of health of LeBron James, who is still coming back from a foot injury. He thus ensures good communication with Mike Mancias, the “King’s” appointed physical trainer, to adjust his plan for this preseason.
“We collaborate and communicate on the measures to be taken”, he added. “We make sure we come up with an effective plan. The great thing is that firstly, he’s in phenomenal shape, and secondly, he probably has more years of experience outside of Anthony Davis than the entire team combined in terms of games and minutes play. And he really takes care of himself.”
LeBron James doesn’t plan to skip too many games, because nothing replaces the intensity of a match to be ready when the regular season begins.
His presence on Monday in Las Vegas for the following match, against Brooklyn, cannot yet be ruled out.
“There are six preseason games, so I hope I can play at least half of them“, did he declare. ” We will see. I think each match will tell us a little more. I won’t play Saturday’s game in the Bay, that’s for sure. But we’ll see after that.”
As already mentioned during the offseason, Darvin Ham recalled that the richness of his roster would also allow him to manage it better this season. In 2022/23, he still averaged more than 35 minutes per game in the regular season, and more than 38 on average over sixteen playoff games.
“With the squad he has around him, he won’t need to start the season with his cape on, so to speak. This help will allow him to not have to be at full strength in every training session and every preseason game.”
