LeBron James' jersey on the cover of Sports Illustrated sold for $1.3 million

Last month, we announced the new sale of a piece of history: the jersey worn by the very young LeBron James on the now legendary cover of “Sports Illustrated” magazine, dated February 18, 2002. We saw the high school student there, with this title which left its mark: “The Chosen One”.

Already sold twice, in 2019 for $187,500, then again in 2021, this time for 512,200 greenbacks, the sale at the end of September 2024 managed to satisfy the expectations of David Goodman, the boss of Julien's Auction, who was in charge of auctions.

The latter hoped for the million and the jersey finally left for $1.3 million. This is certainly not a record for a LeBron James jersey, but never before has a high school jersey been bought for so much at auction.

Michael LeBrecht, the photographer who shot the cover of “Sports Illustrated”, is particularly proud of his photo. “To be somehow connected to one of the greatest sporting stories of any generation like I am is just insane.”he explained.
