As Team USA prepares to take on Germany in its final warm-up match before the 2024 Olympics, LeBron James learned that he was going to be the male flag bearer of the United States at the opening ceremony!
The “King” was thus designated after a vote organized among all the Olympic athletes of the United States.
At 39 years old, and for his fourth (and probably last) Olympic Games, the best scorer in the history of the NBA will have the honor of being the flag bearer of the American delegation during the ceremony, which will take place Friday on the Seine. The female athlete who will accompany him will be designated tomorrow.
Like Giannis Antetokounmpo with Greece
And there is no need to rush because, unlike the Blues, who play the following day in Lille, the United States only begin their competition on Sunday, against Serbia.
“It is an incredible honor to represent the United States on this world stage, especially at a time that can bring the world together.”he explains in the press release. “For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means the world, not only to me, but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, my fellow Olympians and so many people across the country who have great aspirations. Sports has the power to bring us together, and I am proud to be a part of this important moment.”
LeBron James becomes the first basketball player to be the flag bearer for the United States in the men's category, Dawn Staley (2004) and Sue Bird (2021) having already been the case among women.
Let us also remember that Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the flag bearer for Greece at the opening ceremony.
Fit to lead
