LeBron James: “Bronny is the complete opposite of me, he doesn't care about anything”

No Bronny James tonight against the Warriors for the Lakers' 2nd outing in the California Classic Summer League. The fault of a knee that had swollen during the night, and since Las Vegas, LeBron James commented on the pressure that comes with his son's debut after being drafted and signed by the Lakers.

“I don't know if people really understand Bronny”, wonders the Lakers winger. “He doesn't care. Actually, I kind of care. When I came in, I wanted people to like me, and some of the things that were said about me made me a little uncomfortable early in my career. He doesn't care.”

As Bronny explained, he was born with pressure. As soon as he started playing basketball, it was there. “He doesn’t care about anybody. He doesn’t even listen to that stuff. He’s the coolest person. He’s the complete opposite of his dad. His dad will say something to answer the critics. Bronny doesn’t care. … Anything that’s said about him, he doesn’t care.”

Bronny can do whatever he wants in life

And LeBron reminds us that we cannot compare his son and him. Their situations are completely opposite.

“Imagine you were born into a situation where your dad is super famous, super rich, and you, as a kid, still have the drive to accomplish things on your own,” says LeBron. “I personally don’t know if I would have been able to do it if the roles had been reversed. When I was growing up, I had no choice. I literally had no choice. … I had to do everything on my own. My mother, my family, my hometown, my city… Bronny has all the options in the world.”

Papa LeBron finally reminds us that Bronny fought to get back on the court after his heart attack. Everything he experiences on the court is a bonus.

“If Bronny wanted to quit right now or never play basketball, if he just wanted to be a basketball player, if he wanted to be a chef or if he wanted to be nothing, he could do it… People don’t understand how hard it is and the commitment he made coming off heart surgery less than a year ago, to be able to be in the NBA… This kid is unique. But he doesn’t care. He really doesn’t care and it doesn’t bother him.”
