Lauri Markkanen extends with the Jazz for five years and an additional $220 million

It was in the air since Tuesday and it is Adrian Wojnarowski who confirms it: Lauri Markkanen extends his contract with the Jazz for $238 million over five additional seasons.

If we go into detail, we notice that the Finn will receive 220 “new” million with his extension, plus his 18 million “old”, which corresponds to the salary he was due to receive next season.

This extension is not a surprise. However, as explained on Tuesday, the date of the signing was of capital importance. Lauri Markkanen extended this Wednesday, August 7 and can now not be exchanged before six months, or February 7, 2025. However, the transfer deadline is scheduled for February 6, 2025.

The implication is clear: the former Chicago and Cleveland player, who has been attracting the attention of several teams for several weeks, will not leave Salt Lake City before next offseason. The rumors will therefore die down for at least a few months, which will take away from him “a weight off the shoulders”he confides.

“They all showed they believed in me, from coach Will Hardy to the management,” he adds. “It’s a comfortable environment and the resumes of these people speak for themselves. I trust the franchise to help me grow, humanly and on the field, and to build our team. I’m ready for the challenge.”
