The Hornets have announced that LaMelo Ball has suffered a grade 2, or “moderate” ankle sprain. It is therefore a partial tear of a ligament.
It could have been worse given the footage of the Charlotte All-Star’s left foot shooting well, but Lonzo’s brother is still expected to miss the start of his team’s regular season. Charlotte begins its regular season on October 20, in San Antonio.
As Jeff Stotts of InStreetClothes notes, those kinds of injuries lead to an average 19-day absence for players similar to LaMelo Ball, like Mike Conley, Ja Morant or Trae Young.
Although his club assures that his return will depend on how he “responds to rehabilitation and treatment over the next few days”, the North Carolina point guard should logically miss a small handful of meetings but it is clearly a problem. more for Charlotte, who still cannot count on Miles Bridges, still awaiting trial, and who has so far lost her four preseason games.
