With $48.7 million, LeBron James will receive the 14th highest salary for the 2024/25 season. The 2024 Olympic champion, as we know, extended his contract this summer with 101.3 million for two seasons. This may seem normal given the track record and impact of the “King” at the Lakers, but he will be 40 years old on December 30.
Giving so much to such an old player is a strong choice, which also weighs on the franchise's finances. Even if, for the first time since 2010, LeBron James will not receive the maximum salary since he accepted a small “sacrifice” of 2.7 million to give the Lakers a little flexibility.
But Jeanie Buss has no problem giving the 2020 Finals MVP that much money. “Yes, he's our highest paid player, but he's still a steal in my opinion. He's absolutely incredible.”, assure the franchise owner.

“We have a payroll to respect in the league, so we have a limit to pay him. He brings us notoriety in the league, and internationally too. He is a huge star and a great leader,” she continues. “It's the same as with Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant. They would have been paid twice as much without the salary cap. We can only give them the maximum.”
With his latest contract, LeBron James is still assured of exceeding the $500 million earned in salary. And never in the history of the NBA has a player earned so much money with his various contracts.
