What if Kyrie Irving found Kevin Durant at the Suns? It’s hard to believe but the Bleacher Report reports that the Mavericks point guard has planned to meet with Phoenix leaders as part of “free agency”. Our colleagues specify that the All-Star leader has planned to meet other teams, and that the Rockets could position themselves. All meetings would be scheduled in Los Angeles.
As the Suns’ finances have been in the dark red since the arrival of Bradley Beal, the signing of Kyrie Irving is only possible with an “exception” or at minimum wage. Another solution: set up a “sign-and-trade” with the Mavericks, and we imagine that Deandre Ayton would be included in the exchange. It is also rumored that Dallas really appreciates the Bahamian pivot and that discussions have even taken place between the two franchises.
As always with Kyrie Irving, we must be wary of these kinds of rumors, and it is undoubtedly a question of putting pressure on the leaders of Dallas to get the biggest contract possible in Texas. At most, the Mavericks can offer him up to $272 million over five years.
With the exception of the Rockets, no one will be able to offer him as much, but Houston would rather have their sights on James Harden or Fred VanVleet, younger, and undoubtedly easier to manage on a daily basis.
