Kyrie Irving Becomes CEO of PlayersTV

After Players Tribune, it's time for the PlayersTV ! Media dedicated to sports content, Players TV offers shows and reports produced by more than 70 professional athletes from different sports, and we learn that the company has just appointed Kyrie Irving as deputy general manager. Players TV's members include Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, Damian Lillard, Carmelo Anthony, De'Aaron Fox, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan. Outside the NBA, there are three-time Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce, former baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. and current star Mookie Betts.

“As Deputy CEO, it’s incredible to witness the growth of the company since its creation”, reacted the Mavericks leader. “We have great leaders who are developing new strategies and opportunities to uniquely capture the market. When you have a media company, a TV show or an app that is owned by an athlete, it may not resonate immediately because people are used to big media being the go-to people. But as we continue to develop content and build partnerships, I see a bright future ahead of us. It’s really about preparing for life after basketball.”

A media by athletes for fans

Founded by Deron Guidrey and Collin Castellaw, PlayersTV bills itself as the first and only athlete-owned television network that focuses on athlete lifestyle and cultural content and connects fans with their favorite athlete. In short, it’s a platform that removes the barrier of traditional media to allow audiences to access content directly produced by an athlete. PlayersTV content can be viewed on a variety of platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, DirecTV, YouTube, Fire TV and Vizio.

“You can draw a parallel with how Golf Channel or Tennis Channel have evolved and grown, and who owns them.”Irving continues. “The NBA has been a great partner for us, but being a part of PlayersTV gives me the freedom to create content that feels authentic to me. It’s easy to work with like-minded people, especially when they want us to maintain our independence after our playing careers. That’s what drew me to PlayersTV in the first place. Being a GM isn’t easy, but it’s a process I enjoy. It’s something I can pass on to my kids and future generations.”
