The Wizards' victory in Detroit allowed Brian Keefe to unlock his time as head coach, but also allowed Kyle Kuzma to sign a real leader's game: 30 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists in 32 minutes. Originally from Flint, Michigan, the power forward always makes a point of performing well on the Pistons floor, and Saturday night's meeting was no exception to the rule.
“I love playing here. There's my mother and other people there, so I don't want to perform badly in front of my family, because I know otherwise I'll hear about it,” he confided. “And I don't really like being told how bad I played. I owed them one.”
A new start during the season
Brian Keefe wanted to put his contribution into perspective, but for Kyle Kuzma on the other hand, it is the opportunity to launch a new dynamic and start on new bases.
“It’s like a new beginning for us. It's complicated to have a new coach mid-season. “It's something I've never experienced before, and it's probably the case for many of us.” added Kyle Kuzma. “All I can say about Keefe is that he doesn't do anything. If someone disrupts the game, they probably won't see the field. For us, I think it gives us a little more responsibility, each of us, so that we're not as bad. No one wants to be in the middle of the video shoot the next day looking like a crazy person.”
A new trip awaits Washington tomorrow on the floor of San Antonio, with the possibility of continuing to work in the right direction.
