Kobe Bryant statue in front of the Crypto.com Arena unveiled on February 8, 2024

It is via a message from Vanessa Bryant on social networks that the Lakers have just announced the news: a statue of Kobe Bryant will thus be placed in front of the Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers’ hall, on February 8, 2024!

She will join those of Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal and Elgin Baylor. Chick Hearn, who commentated on Lakers games for more than 40 years, also got his statue.

The date chosen (8/2/24) is logically extremely symbolic since it associates the 2, the 8 but also the 24, i.e. the number of Gigi Bryant, who died in the helicopter accident which took away her father, as well than the two numbers worn by Kobe Bryant during his career with the Lakers.

Contrary to what the Daily Mail announced, the statue will represent only Kobe Bryant, and not his daughter Gigi.
