Knicks sign two players to comply with NBA regulations

Franchises have until Thursday to comply with the regulations in terms of staff numbers after the “trade deadline”. Like Minnesota the day before with the reinforcement of Justin Jackson, the Knicks added Thursday two players in their squad. Jacob Toppin And DaQuan Jefferies signed up with ten-day contracts.

DaQuan Jefferies had already played ten games at the start of the season under Tom Thibodeau (1.1 points in three minutes) before shining mainly with the Knicks' G-League franchise (24.3 points at 41.9% from distance, 6.3 rebounds). The guard had already signed for ten days twice in the second part of the 2022/23 season with the Knicks before being signed for several seasons in March… and being cut in December to make room.

For Jacob Toppin, Obi's brother, the former New York player now at Indiana, it's a strange promotion. After participating in the All-Star Game dunk contest last Saturday, he went from the status of a “two-way contract” (2.6 points average in six games) to a so-called “standard” contract as each team must have 14 d by the end of the day. Jacob Toppin is this 14th man for New York, without guaranteeing him to be retained by the end of the season, depending in particular on possible players released by March 1.

The Knicks still have one place available on their roster, and now a place as a “two-way player”. End of the adventure – at least for now – for Taj Gibson…
