The rumor had been circulating since the “trade deadline” last February, and it materialized without much surprise: ESPN announces indeed that Obi Toppinhelmed by Julius Randle in the rotation of Knickssets off in search of greater responsibilities among the Pacersin exchange for two future second rounds of Draft.
Never really entered the plans of Tom Thibodeau (14.7 minutes / game in three seasons), Obi Toppin will therefore play the last year of his rookie contract in Indiana, within a younger team and less in a hurry to win than that of New York. Behind the pair Jarace Walker – Myles Turner, certainly holders, the former Dayton will thus be in competition with Jalen Smith for the majority of minutes on the position of strong winger.
On the Knicks side, it’s a fairly logical decision since the club probably had no intention of extending the 8th choice of the 2020 Draft anyway.
