Knicks make room for Jacob Toppin

There is still a Toppin in New York. Indeed, after the years with Obi Toppin, who left for Indiana last summer, it is his younger brother, Jacob Toppinwho made his mark last season with the Knicks.

A modest place since he only played 9 games under Tom Thibodeau, for an average of 1.4 points. We saw him mostly in the G-League, with 25 games with the Westchester Knicks and 19.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, taking advantage of his ” two-way contract” .

It is with this same contract that the former Kentucky player will continue his adventure next season with the Knicks, announces the franchise. An opportunity for Jacob Toppin (24 years old) to continue his progression.

“I like him a lot, I like his energy, he comes every day with a lot of concentration”his coach Tom Thibodeau had analyzed almost a year ago. “He's still a little bit raw, there's some things he needs to work on, but he's a hard worker, so he just needs to keep doing what he does. He brings a lot of energy, there's a defensive component to him, he likes to get in contact, get rebounds in traffic, run, that kind of thing… He needs to develop some consistency in his shooting and he's really working hard on that.”

Two-way contract : Designed to create a new bridge between the NBA and the G-League, this type of contract allows each team to secure the services of two or three additional players, to have them play mainly in their affiliated development league franchise but also up to 50 matches in the NBA.
