Son of Mychal Thompson, the former interior of the Lakers at the time of “Showtime”, Klay Thompson still can’t believe it: he will face the Lakers in the playoffs! It’s been 32 years since the two most successful franchises on the West Coast have met in the playoffs. It was 1991, and Klay Thompson was one year old. His dad was then playing his last season in the NBA.
“It’s special… We’ve already played four times against LeBron in the NBA Finals. He’s obviously one of the greatest players of all time, and now there’s Anthony Davis.” recalls the back of Golden State. “I watched their streak against the Grizzlies, and they seem to be tight-knit and the guys know their roles. It’s a challenge against a legendary franchise. The Warriors and Lakers haven’t faced each other in the playoffs in a long time. »
And then there is this little extra soul at the idea of challenging his father’s former team in Los Angeles, where his family still resides. “I know that personally I’m very excited because I’m going to play in front of my dad, in front of my mom, in front of some of my best friends… After this Southern California derby, it’s just a dream come true. I’ve been waiting for this for 12 years! »
Beginning of hostilities Tuesday evening, at 4:00 a.m., at the Chase Center.
