After the Celtics on Tuesday evening, a new major test for the Riders (113-104) in the face of Wolves this Friday. This was, again, succeeded not without difficulty, and over time, thanks in particular to Darius Garland (34 points, 8 assists) and Jarrett Allen (33 points, 18 rebounds), without forgetting Georges Niang (16 points) or Caris LeVert (15 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals).
Despite Naz Reid (34 points) and Anthony Edwards (19 points), the best away team in the league therefore falls with weapons in hand, the day after its crazy victory against the Pacers. All without Karl-Anthony Towns or their coach Chris Finch, ill and replaced at the last minute by his assistant Micah Nori.
A result which is of course the business of Clevelandstill firmly clinging to the Top 3 in the East, while Minnesota leaves the Thunder as the sole leader in the Western Conference.
TO REMEMBER
– The Garland/Allen duo holds its place. Without Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley or Max Strus, the Cavaliers needed to rely on their last two leaders standing, namely Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen. By accumulating 67 points for two, they in any case did not shy away from assuming their responsibilities, Allen adding as a bonus 18 rebounds in response to Rudy Gobert's 17. The opportunity to stay in contact with the Bucks in the Top 3, while this same Allen proved decisive during overtime, with 10 of his team's 16 points in the absence of Rudy Gobert, excluded for six fouls.
– Minnesota cracks over time. The match was balanced and the two teams went blow for blow, but it was ultimately the Cavaliers who got the better of the Wolves, blowing them away during overtime. Lacking skill and perhaps running out of juice, after dominating the Pacers at the end of the suspense on Thursday evening, the teammates of an Anthony Edwards much less inspired than the day before were not able to continue, against a team that is certainly diminished but still difficult to maneuver. Naz Reid's big night couldn't help it.
– Rudy Gobert frustrated. Sent off for six fouls, 27 seconds from the end of the fourth quarter, Rudy Gobert was unable to help the Wolves during overtime. Worse: his frustration led to a technical foul then a free throw, synonymous with an equalizer at 97-97 for the Cavaliers and additional time. Unhappy with his expulsion, the Frenchman then rubbed his fingertips, as if to signify that the referees had been bought, which did not escape one of the three interested parties. To the great dismay of Micah Nori, angry afterwards, while the Minnesota pivot for his part made his mea culpa. Admitted fault…
