Killian Hayes confirms against the Thunder

Second preseason game, and second attempt at a “comeback” for the Pistons. As against the Suns, the teammates of Killian Hayes were around twenty points behind, before waking up. Against Phoenix, they finally lost in overtime, but this time, they went all the way as they won 128-125 against the Thunder, in a match played in Montreal.

In front of an audience committed to the cause of Lu Dort, the regional player, Detroit made the difference in the 4th quarter thanks to the trio James Wiseman, Marcus Sasser and Stanley Umude. Between them, they scored 36 of their team’s 38 points, and it was Wiseman, on a tap, then Sasser on two free throws who snatched the victory.

An enterprising Hayes

Alongside a simply perfect Wiseman (20 points, 10 rebounds on 100% shooting), Killian Hayes confirmed his good game against the Suns. Starting in the absence of Cade Cunningham and Monte Morris, the Frenchman compiled 16 points and 4 assists in 26 minutes, and he is much more aggressive than in previous seasons. Beyond his shooting skills (7 out of 13), Killian Hayes no longer hesitates to penetrate to go to the end, like on this cross where he eliminates Chet Holmgren, then avoids his counter. We also saw him score a basket from mid-distance after looking for contact. Result, the And-1.

Good Hayes, and that goes in line with his coach Monty Williams’ recent comments about him. “ He’s someone I heard about when he was drafted. I followed him from afar. I didn’t follow it continuously, but a little” the new Detroit coach recognized.I couldn’t wait to train him because I see his size, I see his qualities. You watch the videos and you see he’s doing the right things. He has the potential to be very effective for us, but it’s still early in the process. But he is having a very good training camp. »

On the OKC side, Ousmane Dieng also takes his responsibilities off the bench with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 5 out of 10 shots. For his second game, Chet Holmgren compiled 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. He had some tough guys facing him with Marvin Bagley, Isaiah Stewart and therefore Wiseman.
