Having played all 82 matches, Kevin Looney is the player who grabbed the most offensive rebounds during the last regular season, with 274 offensive rebounds. So much additional ammunition for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and company.
The Golden State pivot thus achieved his best career campaign, averaging 7.0 points and 9.3 rebounds. His goal for the next campaign? Do even better, obviously.
“I still want to be first in total offensive rebounds” he explains like this. “If I can also be the first to average (with 3.3 offensive catches per game, Kevon Looney was behind Mitchel Robinson, Clint Capela and Jalen Duren), it would be great. I also want to average more than 10 rebounds this season. I want to be the league leader in rebounds. But hey, you never know how many minutes you’re going to play. And if the others play 35 minutes, it’s difficult to dominate the league in rebounds. »
Will Kevon Looney play more than last season, in which he was on the field for an average of 23.9 minutes? The answer is in the hands of Steve Kerr, who loves him and does not want to sacrifice him, but who also uses a lot of the “small ball” with Draymond Green as a pivot, and who must find playing time for Chris Paul.
“I want to at least exceed 10 rebounds per game” continues the 27-year-old. “It would be the first time that I would expect 10 rebounds on average in the NBA. So that’s really my priority.”
And his second individual priority? Play all 82 games of the regular season again.
” Obviously. It’s something I want to continue doing. I pride myself on being at every game and taking care of my body after missing so many games early in my career. I want to continue my momentum. I always approach the season by telling myself that I’m not going to let the coach or the staff think that I’m injured and that I’m going to force things and play the superhero. But that’s really my goal. I’m in tune with my body so I think it’s an achievable goal. »
